Pencil tool?

I see the term 'pencil' has different definition in Reaper... What and where is what would be called the pencil tool in Protools? I'm talking about the thing that lets you destructively redraw a waveform to edit out a click for example.

RE: Pencil tool?

The easy way to get rid of a click, cough, fart or whatever, is to cut out the offending noise and use the excellent stretch tools in Reaper to cover the lost space.

Well this is a first! Man, just can't get rid of Protools... @^#%@$#%@&^%!!!!! Interesting suggestion Byre, except that would be a bigger alteration of the source material than the artifact in question. That's the kind of non-perfect workaround you had to do 15 years ago. Happened to be working on a 24/96 4.0 flac file too. Convert to wav, convert to mono, import into protools, swear at protools, draw out the things, interleave the files with Wave Agent, convert to flac... and we're back. Ornery...

Man that's quite a round trip. :) Why not use an audio editor linked to reaper instead? PT style pencil tool would be nice to have native in reaper, but it's destructive nature might not fit reapers non-destructive model.

Or you could insert a crossfade with a low shape right on the plosive in question. Works for me. Honorable mention is that I use Goldwave as my linked audio editor in Reaper assigned to a hotkey to edit items.

RE: Pencil tool?

Wow! Just wow... Wow, thanks for making me feel a little more sane after editing out chair squeaks and mic noises from an audience recording of a 2.5 hour concert! And I get the part where it really seems silly to be oh so concerned with with a perfectly artifact free removal of a digital click! :D Working with this guy and his band. 3 piece blues band. Drummer can't play. A little - has moments - but not really. He's been asking to replace a cymbal hit at the end of a song. He didn't say a word about the literal dropped beat train wrecks in said song. He didn't hear them at all. He didn't notice or say a word about it when I edited them out and basically programmed the drums. Not on his radar in even the slightest. But that cymbal hit... Editing was so off his radar that he listened to it multiple times before he realized I also honored hit cymbal request! "How did you do that?! So I don't have to come in with my cymbal to record it?" But they're cool guys. Play because it makes them happy. I suppose your guy does too but... wow! The refusing to learn basic computer 101 bit is just obnoxious (zip files, media players, etc).
