I've got to make space on my hard drive using Nero. When I try to save a large session as a data CD, I get a message saying my media is not large enough. Isn't there a way to save to multi CDs using Nero? I can't find it in the help files of Nero. This must be a common procedure. Thanks for your help.... Tom

RE: Backing up PT sessions to multi CDs with Nero?
firstly, delete unused files from the session. if there are lots of 'orphaned' audio files, you may want to save a session copy, including audio files and delete the original session. refer to the manual for instructions on these procedures. if, once the session is trimmed of any excess, it is still bigger than 700 MB, split the audio files into seperate folders of 700MB or less (call the folders Audio Files 2, Audio Files 3 or whatever) and simply burn them to multiple CD's. you'll want to label everything well to avaoid potential confusion when the time comes to restore the session(s).

If you download MusicMatch Jukebox it has a SmartSplit function which, having loaded in all of your audio files, will split them into seperate burns for you so once the first CD's burnt, you put in another CD and hit Burn Next. Each CD will be filled to capacity.

Yeah, it's a little slow, but if you don't use the top compression option, it's a lot faster, and still much more compressed than zip. I just prefer to set up the archive, background it and forget it until it's done. Much easier for me than doing a bunch of splitting. But that depends on how much material he has to split up. The thing I just archived was 9.7 gigabytes. And that's before compression. Whee! Splitting it manually would have taken days. Winrar did it for me while I was tanning my pale white butt at the beach! But I'm with you if it's just a couple CD's worth, he should just split them. Either way, the advice in your tips section should get him very close to where he's trying to go, it's a very good run down of the process. I was just trying to add that option for him if it applies to his situation, as it seemed a more direct answer to the question he was asking. -Olaf

Yes, you guys are correct. I was following your procedure, and it was working great, till I hit an audio file (a recorded concert) that is bigger than a CD. I like the idea of downloading the Musicmatch Jukebox. But what are you guys talking about when you say, just split the file? Can you actually cut a wav file in half? if so, how do you do that? Thanx... Tom
RE: Backing up PT sessions to multi CDs with Nero?
I think he was talking about taking the .wav's in the audio files folder and seperating them into folders small enough to fit on a CD. That's assuming that each individual file is small enough to fit onto a CD (which is likely unless you're doing something huge). I haven't personally used musicmatch at all, but it sounds like it does that same thing. Or maybe it's splitting the files themselves, but it seems that may cause problems later.I think that function will be found in many burner or compression programs, you'll just have to find which one you like best. -Olaf

oh, and in regards to a concert recording, you can split it in protools before you bounce it. Just make a selection to the halfway point or wherever, and bounce that, then select the rest and bounce that. Voila! Two files! -Olaf (is it voila?)
