beige g3 - uh oh

hello all, i have a beige mac g3 266 and i want to invest in a 001. digidesign's compatibility docs warn against using the 001 with the beige g3 line, claiming that inexplicable errors occur a few times during an 8 hour session (errors which one can click 'ok' and pass right by, apparently.) what should i do? does anyone know first hand about the 001's performance with a beige g3? would it be foolish to buy the 001 after digidesign's warnings? much thanks

Bosco, Sorry, I don't have an answer for you on that. It sounds from a similar post I had about a virtual synth, that we will have to wait until PT 5.01 comes out. BTW, you aren't by chance located in Hawaii, are you? NannerPuddin'

RE: beige g3 - uh oh

bosco, i have a beige G3, 266 and i have been running PTLE & 001 since about feb. I do occasionally have some crash problems. This weekend while in my studio, had pt running for 14 hrs WITHOUT it crashing. Most of the time i will get one crash every 20-30 hrs. And rarely will i get 2 crashes in 8 hrs. My machine is not the fastest, but it does what i need. Plus i got 288 ram, OS 9.04. If you cannot wait, like me, then get it, if you upgrade to a G4, you can always reinstall PTLE & 001, which is a no-brainer BTW. hope this helps ya sdf

Bosco - I'm running a beige 266 G3 minitower, upclocked to 300MHz. I get the advertised DAE error at worst about once every two hours. I've also run for 8 or more hours without a problem. The worst that happens is that a recording is halted midstream, and I have to do a re-take. It does not crash the system. I have NO regrets about purchasing the 001. I am planning, however, for a 500MHz (or multi-processor?) G4 so I can run more RTAS plug-ins. Go for it!

Hi bosco. i'm using digi001 with a biege g3-233. i never had a crash, and i'm using it since feb'. my sessions are opened somtimes for days, and nothing bad happends. the only problem i have is dsp power, which im thinking of solving it by upgrading to a G4 with newertech zif upgrade. dont let this stop you from using this amazing equipment. Chears, Mook.

sdf - For instructions on upclocking your G3 266, check out: Your local Fry's Electronics or Radio Shack should have the required tiny jumpers. Note that I added a small fan to blow over the CPU to keep the temperature under control. I upclocked my Mac about 1 1/2 years ago, and it's still solid. Good luck!

Beige Folks, I wish my Beige was running as well as other's seem too. I'm getting the beige DAE error every couple of minutes. Heck, sometimes I can't even play more that a second of audio without the error. My G3/266 MT (385MB Ram) is still on 8.6. What's everyone else using? Also, is everyone lowering their disk cache down all the way as digi suggests? Thanks for the help guys. I know I need to buy a G4, but I'm only on PT a few hours a week. ------------------ - T.
