Rosetta 800 or 800/HD Pack: Which with 192 I/O?

I am considering the Rosetta 800 as a means of interfacing outboard analog gear to my HD 2 system (Mac G4 867; 192 I/O). I have not looked at this unit before, so I am just becoming familiar with it. I note that I can buy either: (1) the Rosetta 800, or (2) "the Rosetta 800 and X-Series-HD Card for ProTools/HD Systems." I was planning on using a Dsub25-to-Dsub25 from the 192 digital port to the Rosetta. -If I use the "X-Series-HD Card", can I ALSO use the 192 digital port, so I have additional I/O? Or -Does the The X-Series Card use the Core Card port the 192 I/O is using, so it is EITHER the X-Series Card OR the 192 I/O? If the latter is the case, then I just buy the basic Rosetta 800, and forget the X-Series card. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Mike

If you get x hd card you can connect the rosetta directly to the core or process cards. You can still use the other port for 192. But if i am not mistaken x-hd cards are not out until spring 2004. So you can get rosetta and connect it to the 192 and later if you need you can get the x hd card. Oz

Thanks guys. Important point that the card simply connects to the current 800, so I could expand I/O later by just adding the card. Thanks, Mike

Hi! Apogee's site does not specify whether a Digi Hardware interface will still be required. I am *assuming* that since Pro Tools looks for Digi hardware, it needs to find a Digi interface as well- does the new card emulate a Digi interface, thus removing the requirement for say, a Digi192; or does it still require a Digi interface of some sort to be there still? In other words- buy HD system, and no longer need to buy a Digi interface? If so..very interesting...

I'm using Apogee Rosetta 800 192K converters as a front end to my Nuendo rig with a Lynx AES16 card. It truely sounds great and is a worthwhile investment for any DAW. Apogee sells a turnaround AES cable that will interface with an HD192 without a problem. Hope you enjoy the upgrade.

If you have the x-hd card there is no need for digi interface to go with it..You can record and monitor using the Rosetta only. Oz

Maybe I am wrong I don't know.Maybe that "you have to have at least one digi interface is for Rosettas without the x-hd cards. Oz
