Yes Divx 6 is great but not free. Does anyone know if xvid developers going to answer back to the Divx 6? I have tried searching in xvid forums but no luck

He probably means a release with a higher version number. Or the introduction of a proprietary container format ;) So, no, the Xvid developers won't "answer back" because there is no need to. CU, lamer_de

nope... XviD developers aim at creating a good working codec. DivX aims at creating a good working all-in-one video back-up solution compatible with their hardware. from what ive read it should be possible to use xvid with DMF though.

you can use any mpeg-4 codec in ".divx", as .divx is .avi (maybe including additions like chapters or subs, but also maybe not) if you want a "xvid container", simply rename your xvid .avi files to .xvid, cause thats simply what divx does for audio+video-only files to create ".divx" files
why xvid developers should invent new container? they left decision for us - we can use any container that we like: Matroska, mp4, avi, etc, etc, etc...
xvid should die.. they made loads of xvid movies that dont play back on divx hardware.. xvid is a joke on its users.. any codec is useless if it dont playback on divx hardware
@CrashUK sorry but the Developers make no Movies they write the Codec and they also don't make the Playback of XviD impossible on Hardware Players if you create them (Standalone Compatible) it will work the way DivX does on any DivX Player of any Generation and for sure you will like the fact that all the new Hollywood Movies that come out for HDTV won't playback on your DivX Player, many will disagree with you that AVC/VC1 aren't useless only because they don't play on your loved DivX Certified Player it is just that ;) The Playback "Restrictions" you Expirience are coming from the fact that Soc Manufactures wan't to save money and aren't interested in the small Quality that Qpel,GMC or for some Custom Matrixes "can" produce.

Exactly. According to you DivX is also useless since it can do qpel which won't playback on all standalones. Basically you download stuff for free that won't play and you want to complain? If you must complain, complain to whoever released it as they are the ones who enabled whatever settings cause it not to work for you. Then again you could always just encode stuff yourself.
