device failure crash

once in a while , my protools system freezes and goes into safe mode to allow me to save with a "device failure" error. Could it be my computer is getting too hot? I have a small room with lots of gear heating things up. Sometimes I get strange things happening like my monitor section in protools gets stuck and I can't change levels regardless of moving the faders. Anyone else had these problems? Thank you for any help. ron
