Digi 002 Communication w/faders & dots in strips 

Has anyone experienced problems with Digi 002 not powering on? Or, once you're able to get it started after several attempts, you receive dots in the scribble strips display? Or, once you get past booting the 002 hardware, you receive communication error such as "Unable to communicate with faders"? This suddenly happened after not using the 002 for a few days during the week of Apr 5 - 10 (not sure if dates are important). On Sunday the 11th, that's when all ... broke loose . Today, I called tech support after attempting everything I could think of and viewing the answerbase. But the long distance call on hold for over 45 min. started to look expensive . So I'll call first thing in the morning. Does anyone know what caused the problem - why it happened or how to resolve the issue? Funny thing (really not funny at all) , I think my warranty is up this week . So I hope I get in touch with tech support for an RA#.

I have the exact same problem with my DIGI 002 right now. I have contacted Digidesign support, and the claim its a problem with early 002 that they are aware of. Its a defect power harness inside the 002. Support will mail you a replacement harness if you have registered your product. Anyway I already have replaced my power harness, but now this problem came up once again with the following symtoms: ProTools loses contact with the hardware, the LED indicating firewire communication starts flashing, clicking sounds and a low "buzzing" sound from fader section is heard, and all this happens at random occasions. Very anoying. Ive read a repair report from another troubbled 002 user somewhere in this forum, and he had to replace both the power harness and the power supply. I guess I have to try replacing the power supply now. Good luck to us both... DIGI 002, P4 3.0gHZ, 1024MB RAM

You need a power harness. Call digi first thing and they'll overnight one to you with installation instructions. It's a known prob and they'll go out of their way to help you fix it.

I must say that although I have not had to call Digi yet, I have ordered a software update and a book and both were sent overnight from the day I ordered online. I couldn't believe it, I ordered each seperately on different nights and both were here early the next day - best service I have ever seen.
