Is Reaper a standalone?

.....or does it have to be used with other software? Could I do audio and midi recording and mix and master them in the same program like the Ableton software? I just heard about Reaper today on the Sound On Sound forum: Some people on the forum definitely think it is a good suite and the price is also interesting compared to the Ableton Live 7 upgrade. :)

RE: Is Reaper a standalone?

Thanks peoples, that sounds like butterflies. I got an Ableton 6 lite a few weeks ago as a freebie with an M-Audio Delta 192 soundcard so this is pretty new ground. Are there any incompability issues that spring to mind? I run a 5600+ dual core Athlon; would it recognize both cores? I can only get one with Ableton. Thanks for the replies. :)

Why should we write a book of replies when one has already been written:

@ Tim.....because people speak out of experince and with a manual I'd have to understand what I was reading from the start to be able to appreciate what the kit is about. :)
