Big White Line in Video?

Yeah... newest version of VD, nvidia video capture from an 8mm analog source using S-Video. Even happens on the video camera's blue screen. What the heck? It is burned into the video - its just just something that's there during display. It does nto appear on a TV, or in the viewfinder. Appears at random. ALso, it doesn't happen when I use Windows Movie maker - which I do not want to use.

Under options->preferences.... Output depth should be the display depth. Then under display, try disabling directx, which will probably fix it, but cause a noticeable performance hit if you play videos to preview in vdub. You can try playing with the D3D and OGL options to see if any work.

@Techiejustin Boy, does your description and image smack of the second generation Macrovision for VHS...

Nope. No go. Still have the big white bar. It id obviously a VD problem - doesn't happen anywhere else. I think i need to be reminded again why free software is so wonderful. Nothing beats having an inxpensive car, but if it doesn't get me whereI need to go the philosophy has to be reconsidered.

Have you ever installed codec packs on your systems, especially something like nimo's? Normally it's almost impossible to get huffyuv to crash, it's so simple, but many codec packs dramatically reduce the stability of your multimedia. What colorspace are you trying to capture into, also, and what dimensions is the video? (Commercial software isn't all that much more reliable than high-class free software like vdub, sometimes much worse. But if it isn't working, trying avidemux, ulead videostudio, or another nle is absolutely worth testing.)

looks like codec problems to me - or maybe computer issues in general. Sometimes video encoding software will reveal instabilities that other intensive tasks like gaming do not. Do you overclock at all? This can be a common culprit. ~MiSfit

Have you tried using a "less-than-the-latest" version of Virtual Dub?
