Bit depth increase filter?

Hi guys, I have noticed that every Blu-ray I have watched contains (I think) compression artefacts - areas where there should be a little detail but there isn't and it looks really ugly. This happens mostly in brown tone areas. In order to improve quality and encounter the compression artefacts, I have come up with "MSU Super-Precision-Filter" () but this is a filter for companies only. It increases the bit depth of a video by adding false details. Is there any filter in Avisynth that does similar things? I have tried adding grain, also with GrainFactory3, but then the grain seems so smear when I encode the filtered movie with x264 and it adds "detail" to the entire frame, not only to probleme areas. Also adding grain costs a lot of bitrate... Any ideas? Regards moviefan

Hm, I use gradfun2db, but it doesn't seem to have such a great impact on picture quality as Super-Precision-Filter seems to have. I even use GradFun2DBMod to add some grain to those areas... But the artefacts of the Blu-rays remain... I guess it is very difficult to get the subjective depth of the picture back once it has been removed by crappy encoding.

OK, so gradfun2db essentially does what I want and MSU's results look so great because they chose examples where their filter works best. In conclusion if gradfun2db can't help me getting rid of ugly Blu-ray compression artefacts, they probably can't be removed adequately.

Have you tried Lato's GradFun2DBMod ? Is a 3 second sample ok to post ? I know banding / color depth / compression issues exist widely, but some examples of what "other" people are trying to deal with make it easier to see.
