ATTO SCSI performance / error -6042

Thom, First..make sure you read the compatibility docs..for the 001..in the digi support section..and check the recommended settings for the atto card..etc. Once youve done that..go to proformance.com and read the extensive articles..on LVD cards..and scsi performance in the mac..where they detail operating procedure..and tips..for different card types. Bascially, the deal is...your PCI ultrascsi card..has to sync..with your mac. Ultra scsi cards..are capable of higher sync rates..than the mac an handle. The error..usually misleads people into thinking that their cards are not going fast enough..when in fact..the opposite is true. You need to lower the sync rate of your scsi card. There are instructions on proformances site on how to do this. (but remember..to check digis site first..as it also contains..extensions..etc..that need to be changed about). The sync rate..once tweaked (even at twice as low as default) will actually give you BETTER performance..than the higher rate..and should nix your bus to busy errors. You did right to use the Digi approved atto ..as some cards..DO cause these problems for different reasons. Check out the info..and post back if you still have problems. dcornutt

OK, I actually got it running, but I still get error -6042 every once in a while, which brings everything to a screechin' halt. This is a minor nuisance for tracking but a big problem for mixing/mastering. What...no SCSI experts out there? I can't be the only person experiencing this. Well, maybe.
