RE: Bill Payen Blues

Nice bit of blues.Great voice, nice playing and guitar sound but the mix is way out. Too much reverb on the drums pushing them too far back in the mix and making the guitar come to the front too much. Also rendering at 128k will suck bass and top frequencies out in most cases. I rarely render less than 192k.Also if you sound card supports it when,"Tracking" e.g recording use 24 bit 44.1k .wav This gives you more,"Headroom" to play with although some people who record can do a fantastic job using 16 bit 44.1k. Another trick you can try is to not apply any Reverb to the drums or just a real small amount and put a reverb on the Master and apply just a little to the whole mix for this style of music so it,"Glues" the whole sound into a live feel. It's quite common to use too much reverb and echo if mixing in headphones as they give a false perception of how much is actually on the track. Great track tho' :D This is one of my early tracks I did with Reaper and I was guilty of too much reverb on 5 days rain and the drums were free samples loaded in a free player, .

Yeh, I have to mix with headphones, I'll take the reverb off the drums and punch them up a little. I didn't pay any attention to the mp3 rendering I just chose it and rendered it. Thanks for your kind words about the performance.
