Is PCI becoming extinct?

I bought the Gigabyte MA790X-UD3P, which is a DDR2 version of the same MA790X-UD4P (DDR3) model. The mobo has 2 PCI slots, altho I don't think I'll use them really. These mobo's are made for AMD processors, but I'm sure Gigabyte offers something similar for Intel as well. I'm not sure about other brands, but Gigabyte seems to continue to implement PCI in some of their mobo's. Not extinct yet. ;)

I've got a MOTU PCI-424 based system, that apparently I need to buy a $300 PCI-e card if I want to use a "modern" system. Has anyone used one of those bridge-thingies with a PCI MOTU 424?

re; PCI cards. Hope I'm not heisting the topic too much but maybe someone can give me a good tip on a new PC - but with original PCI slots. I'm on a Mac right now but have both an RME and UAD-1 PCI card that are both Mac/PC friendly. Before I buy a newer Mac I want to get a PC to house those PCI cards. It has to be pretty good in terms of power so I can do serious work on it, too. However, I want to be a cheapskate as well and would prefer to pay around $500 as it's not my regular platform to invest in. However, Reaper makes this a worthwhile option for me... Any thoughts. [I can start a new thread if needed]
