I hope this isn't too stupid a question...and I know it has to do with Pro Tools being audio based and Logic Midi based. I've started using Logic Pro 7.1 with my PT HD2 system (PT 6.7 on OS X.3.8). I like Logic's virtual instrument integration but I still wanted to mixdown and edit in Pro Tools. I bounced my files to disk and opened them in Pro Tools. I set the PT's BPM to match Logic's but the files drift out of sync. I know this happens in Pro Tools...audio files slowly drift out of sync. I was wondering if there was a simple solution to this issue...I'm sure I'm not the only one working with MIDI in Logic and then working with audio in Pro Tools. Once again...I apologize if this is a stupid question with an obvious solution that's sitting right in front of my face! Thanks, Myshell

Hello, I have done this many times and have never had files drift out of sync, on 4-5 minute songs. i did a 95 minute live set once in logic and brought the files into pro tools and there was only a 2-3 frame shift towards the end of the session. Have you tried to save the song as an OMF/AAF file and then load it into PT? also try saving a midi file of the session and load that into PT as this will import the markers and tempo map. Regards Chris
Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure it drifts out...I've tried it on a kick drum track. The same thing happens when you cut/paste and repeat a bar loop made in Pro Tools...it will drift out of sync. This is in Bar/Beat mode...maybe I should be in milliseconds??? Oh...and I'm trying out Logic because soft synths with Pro Tools has been a little sketchy. Logic seems to handle virtual instruments quite well so far. But the audio editing is a lot smoother in Pro Tools... Myshell
Myshell, When you cut and repeat a region in Pro Tools, PT isn't referencing the bar/beats ruler, it just repeats the region end to end. I believe if you cut when you are in samples (not milliseconds), it will be a lot more accurate. Though the usual way of doing this is to repeat your regions, select them all, and then simply quantize audio to the bar/beat ruler (command-0).
When you say they drift out of sync - what are you comparing them to? A video track or other audio tracks? Are these audio files that play from the beginning of the song to the end or are they loops?
Hi: They are audio files like the kick drum track...about 4 minutes long (so they are not loops). I bring them into Pro Tools...chop the first kick into time... the first few bars are in time with the Pro tools grid (bar/beat mode)....but after awhile the kick drum will be out of sync with the Pro Tools grid. Thanks for the response! Myshell
Do what Chris suggested and import a midi file from Logic into your Pro Tools session (click track the length of your longest audio file). This will import a tempo map and the bar/beat grid will stay in time. Stew
