Final Cut Pro

MessageAuthor

Hi All, I am giving my editor a stereo .wav 16bit 48k file of a mix for a 6 minute short and it is drifting in his fcp session. Iam working off of his omf and bouncing to disc. We have worked together before without any issues. The audio in his project is also 48k. I also have the quicktime that he gave me in my session and there is no drift. Please Help. Thanks, Vic

RE: Final Cut Pro

Thanks Minister, Seems like from that post there is a bug in FCP? I will ask the editor to check the audio import settings and I will try an .Aiff instead of .wav and see if that does the trick. Let me know if anyone else has some light to shine on the situation. Thanks, Vic

RE: Final Cut Pro

Hi Vic, No it's not actually a "bug" - it's a "feature". Apple is aware of it (I'm told) and it is normal and "expected" behaviour (at least by Apple standards) and related to the Cinema Tools function. If it IS your issue (are you working at a TRUE 24fps or 25fps timeline?) then an .AIFF won't solve it, the audio MUST be converted to a Quicktime movie to avoid FCP pulling up the audio automatically...

RE: Final Cut Pro

HI ilinx, Yes... It can affect ANY workflow, if the capture settings do not match the sequence setting with regards to pull/up down. In other words it will affect a 24 or 25 fps sequence if the capture settings are set to 23.98 or 29.97 and it will affect a 23.98/29.97 sequence if the capture settings are set to 24 or 25fps. I've heard reports that this has changed in FCP 6.03, but I haven't had any opportunity to test that...
