I can't play past a certain point in a MPEG2 file.

Sorry if this appears more than once. I tried posting it into the 'DVD Encoding' forum, but it never appeared. I am trying to Encode and Author a 100 minute DV video (from my Camcorder) into DVD. I followed a TMPGEnc guide and created a high quaility template based on the default PAL DVD version (2pass VBR with a lot of maximum settings selected). 22 hours later, it finished encoding and I started the Authoring process. I have found a problem with the mpeg, but don't know where to start debugging it. 1. PowerDVD. If I play the MPEG under PowerDVD, it plays perfectly and the quality is fine. However if I grab the 'time-line' and drag it to the end of the video, when I let it go, the video only goes to a point 3/4 of thay way through and the time-line 'springs' back to about 3/4. From here, dragging the timeline to the end does nothing except jump a few frames. Every time I drag it to the end and let it go, it springs back! However, the video plays fine and I can fast-forwards it (at 32x) to the end. 2. DVDIt/MovieFactory When I am playing the video under the authoring package, I get similar(ish) problems.. The first 3/4 of the video plays fine.. But when I drag the time-line towards the end of the video, it just stops.. The counter keep increasing, but it won't play. Where ever I place the time-line, I get a still image, but when I hit play, the video doesn't move. The strange thing is that if I 'author' the video and create a DVD, it plays fine on my Pioneer DVD player.. Its just a problem with my PC. Perhaps its an issue with the MPEG codec that I am using for playback?

I encounter the same phenomen. I think PowerDVD can't seek well enough in some streams. But as you wrote it's only a seek error in PowerDVD.

Glad its not just me. What worries me more is that the phenominum is seen in other applications, but in different forms. In DVDit, I can move to a point towards the end of the video, but all I get is a 'freeze frame'. If I press the left/right arrow, I can move a frame at a time and can see EVERY frame.. But when I press 'play', the video doesn't play. Saying that, I have a feeling that DVDit, uses the PowerDVD MPEG2 decoder, so its probably the same problem.
