Hi, I am the proud owner of a new Digi002r. I'm having a rather major problem with it. When I turn the 002 rack on, All I get it the red 'mute' button. It does not lock to a sample rate (usually 44.1). When I enter ProTools it will scan the plug ins, and then come up with the error "Unable to locate digidesign hardware, please ensure your hardware is plugged in and click ok" SOMEtimes however, the Digi002 turns on, locks the sample rate, and I can get in to Pro-tools without any errors. Then after 15 mins, 10 mins, an hour, or some other random amount of time, the digi002 just seems to drop the connection and I get "Protools has lost connection with your Digidesign hardware, please reconnect it"... The sample rate light goes off, as does the 1394 light. All I'm left with is the red 'mute' button on. This stuff appears totally random. I can leave the unit off for a few mins, few hours, and sometimes it will come back to life, and sometimes it won't. I have two seperate firewire cards in the unit. Windows XP shows no problems with them. I have tried several firewire cables, all this similer results. I have also tried the two firewire ports on the back of the Digi rack unit with the same results. One thing I notice is if I plug in to one of the ports, the green 'link' light will come on for about 2 seconds, and then drop off again. When I switch ports on the rack unit, same issue. The only thing I can think of is it is an issue with the Digi002 unit iself. Can anyone offer me ANY advice at all about how to solve this problem? The computer it's running on is a p4 3 gig, Windows XP SP1.
Please post your system specs.... Motherboard etc. It could also be that the power harness in your 002 is faulty or not seated properly. It`s a common problem with the 002R... ...Also check that your chipsets are compatable with LE.....
Thanks, The other thing is that I have another production studio right across the hall working on the exact same computer (motherboard, processor, ram, etc) and it is running A-OK, no problems at all, so I don't think it's an issue with anything being in-compatable, as it works totally fine on the other system (same firewire cards as well)

Are you saying the new 002r works fine on the other system? If so, try a new firewire cable. I have had one fail already for no reason at all. Now I always keep a spare on hand.
No, when it doesn't work, no clicking noises at all, just the red mute light comes on on the front panel. When it DOES work it does making 2 or 3 clicking noises as the lights come on (sample rate lock) And no, there are two digi002's and 2 computers that are the same. The one setup in another room is working fine. The setup in the room that I'm in now isn't working very well at all. I've tried two firewire cards in this current system with no luck, and five different firewire cables themselves. Thanks for all the help so far folks

Is your session on an external FireWire drive? I had similar problems to what you're describing when the session was on an external FireWire drive. When I moved it to an internal drive, everything worked fine. HTH, Brian

If your problem is the same as mine this has nothing to do with the computer. I have the same red mute light problem and the proof that it's the unit is that you can't run monitors through the unit in stand-alone mode. I tried inplugging the firewire cord completely and tried to run a cd through the alt src into the monitor. The problem is that i can't use any of the buttons. I push all of them and nothing happens. My unit has now gotten to the point that I NEVER get a start up. I'm stuck with a big silver unit in my rack with a sole red mute light. The unit does nothing else. This is clearly a unit problem. If this sounds like that problem described above with the power, how do you fix that??
