Poly to Mono (audio) plugin?

is there such a plugin that can reduce a complex waveform like a chord down to a more monophonic waveform by some kind of bit reduction or averaging? further description: an audio plug that looks for the dominant frequency so to speak, and resynthesizes it, for insertion into a plugin like a guitar synth that wants a monophonic source, or autotune, etc. thanks for your open ears and open mind. rc

RE: Poly to Mono (audio) plugin?

It's extremely difficult to do, just look at how well Celemony's Melodyne DNA technology has worked out. They announced it over a year ago and promised it'd be available last Autumn but there is still no sign of it anywhere. There are rumors they actually haven't figured out how to do it and the public demos given last year were simply fake...

Slightly more detailed answer: A single clean guitar note has tons of overtones/harmonics. A chord of two/three/five/six notes consequently has many more, some of which will overlap, some of which will be stronger based on the resonant frequencies of the guitar. Any tiny muting from a loose finger will affect both the volume of that string and the overtones it creates. Taking all of that apart and coming up with a single note is going to take some pretty fancy math, and apparently nobody's figured out a reasonable way to do it yet.

to get started with wavelets, you could look at the ana_haar analysis plugin, and the ana_sigview which shows the result of such a transform. and the fx_haarmorph which does an audio -> haar wavelets -> audio the haar is the most primitive and simple wavelets, but could give some ideas and insight into how they work and what could be possible... find all of them here: in JS, and with source code of course. - ccernn

FSynth Pro is an audio effect that allows to modify the envelope and filter characteristics of existing audio events as if they were generated using MIDI. FSynth Pro detects new audio events in the incoming audio signals, and configures an internal synthesizer in real time to sound very similar to the detected event. The envelope and filter characteristics of this internal synthesizer can subsequently be modified to drastically change the character of audio events. FSynth Pro is very suitable to spicen up drum or percussion tracks, and to generate sound scapes from real-time input.
