Jamstix would probably do what you want, but I guess without any clue to the genres you're working in, I can't say with certainty.

RE: Drums : could use some help

... easy, low cost, but great sound drums... Well, thats not easy. I think if you want something good you have to spend some money. No matter if you use samples or VSTi`s. Especially if you want to record a whole CD. My advice is: Take a look at Jamstix at Version 3 was just released. Jamstix is some kind of a virtual drummer. You choose a basic groove, choose one of the virtual drummers and press play. Then the virtual drummer starts playing. You can change the groove in many ways through the drummer`s "brain". So almosy every groove variations, fills and breaks are possible. Sounds a bit complicated, but it is really easy to use. There are also some drum kits included, but I can`t judge their quality, because I use Jamstix for the MIDI part only. The basic version of Jamstix3 costs $99. Not too much for the value you get with it. There is also a demo on the website to try it out and some videos, explaining the basic functions. So check it out. Cheers, Xoechz

There are a bunch of really good drum sample sets floating around the web for free. Search the forum for 'drum samples' as there have been many links posted over time already.

well for style, as I said, rock/hard rock...... though I don't play nearly as well........satch influenced / 80's metal influence..........AC/DC........Zep............ stuff like that. I checked out jamstix which does seem pretty cool.....although maybe a bit complicated for me right now...... I'll do some forum searches..... any other loop or non-loop stuff that I should be checking out besides jamstix (which does seem pretty cool)

Have a look at the IKMM Xpansion Tank Group Buy: -- drum kits and loops and the SampleTank ROMpler and a lot more - all for $50.

RE: Drums : could use some help

Yes, Jamstix IS very cool. And much fun to use. Oh, I really don`t want to advertise it, and I`m not working for them. Relaly not. It is just the coolest VSTi I have bought so far. I am also doing "AC/DC to Satch" kind of music. And Jamstix seems to be perfect for this. If you are looking for something else check out the "usual" drum softwares like BFD, EZdrummer, Drumkit from Hell and so on. FXpansion hast just released BFD Eco, which seems to be a light version of BFD2. All these softwares have some groove libraries included which you can work with. It`s not only a matter of quality, but also a matter of taste. Try some demos and buy what you like best. Greetings, XoechZ

Toontrack EZ drummer is worth a look too. You can use the built-in midi libraries or create your own grooves.

RE: Drums : could use some help

@ngarjuna: For more static, "non-human" drumming, just use no drummer. Loading the groove only, but no drummer, means that there ist no "brain" in the back which makes the grooves human. But then you will have less knobs and sliders to adjust the groove. On the other side, there is a drummer called "Machine". This one simulates an electronic drum machine. Yes, that sounds a bit funny :-) XoechZ
