Sampling Streaming Audio From Browser

I actually had this working fine on my old laptop. Now I have Roland Tri-Capture running on a 64 bit Win 8 w/ 64 bit Reaper. How do I record "what i hear" for eg: from youtube or a video player ? I already tried all the possible combos i could think of, but no luck so far. Any and all help will be highly appreciated.

Reaper won't help you here, it doesn't have the feature to "loopback record". You could either use a physical cable from the output of your soundcard back into the input of your soundcard or you could use Audacity to record since it has the loopback record feature. edit : I added a feature request for this

Can't you rip the stream then extract the audio with virtualdub or whaterver freebie editor? Downloadhelper for firefox should be able to rip most of the embedded videos and something like anyvideo converter should take care of conversion to some more digestible formats.

For folks without a Tri-Capture, Audacity does this very nicely. Just select as input whatever the other app/browser is using as output and record away FYI - the recording in Audacity will be post-volume control of the other app. I always max the volume in the app and turn down my speakers with the physical knob This is my experience with Windows 8.1. I can't say about Mac

Here's the "standard" way of doing this without specialized 'loop back' hardware features. I use Soundflower This acts like a 'device' in core audio that gives you a 16 channel bus. Select Soundflower for system output in core audio and then the app in question's output to system (or directly to Soundflower if it has the ability). Make an aggregate device of your interface(s) + Soundflower. Assign the Soundflower inputs at will in Reaper. By default stereo uses channels 1,2 and 5.1 surround uses ch 1-6 in standard order. It works flawlessly in OSX. I can't comment on Windows since I don't use it.
