Rear Door Handle problem

Hello to everybody on the forum ! My beloved 740 GLE was broken into a few days ago. They smashed the smaller rear door window and had a rummage through my glovebox and boot, taking only an old mobile phone. I've just had the glass replaced but now the door wont open from the outside. I guess that the glass repair guy must have touched something. It will open from the inside OK, but the outside door handle doesn't do anything. The central locking also seems to work but the round locking button doesn't go down as far as it used to when i activate the central locking. I've had the inside trim panel off and noticed that the inside door handle moves two door rods (a large thick one and a smaller one higher up). When I press the outside door handle none of these rods move. Should the outside door handle be connected to these rods ? What should I do to fix this ?? thanks for any help. Simon.

Hi, Remove both the rear door linings and check the run of each of the lock rods in the repaired door compared to the other door. I have come across mis routed lock controls on my previous 940 after the same window was fixed. The lock indicator was also not flush when the door was locked. There is quite a lot of dismantling required to change that window. ivor940

I had to replace the outside handle last year and I'm still having problems with the lock sticking and the door not opening from the outside. My problem seems to be that the lock rod that runs from the inside lock to the mechanism is supposed to run through several plastic retaining clips on the door. Some of mine are broken and the lock rod has enough free play that it doesn't unlock the door all the way. Maybe your glass guy broke some of them since they're fairly fragile. I also seem to have something binding in the lock/latch mechanisms themselves.
