Anyone got any good ideas on how to unscramble them?

RE: Aver DVB-T & Scrambled channels

Anyone know how to view scrambled channels on this card? It doesn't have a card slot, so i can't use the card from my settop box.

RE: Aver DVB-T & Scrambled channels

I doubt there is any way of doing this without a lot of work - I too would like to view scrambled channels like that, but neither my digibox (a Black Diamond BD68STB) nor my PCI digital TV card (Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-t) have a smart card slot. Though I might be replacing that digibox soon, because it's playing up - when you power it up, you have to leave it on for about 2 hours before it actually activates itself, but hey, at least it was cheap. Ahem. Back to trying to solve your problem - perhaps there is some software out there that can descramble them, but like I said, it'd be a hell of a lot of work. And incidentially, PCI digital TV (or rather, DVB-T) cards with smart card slots don't seem to exist, far as I can tell. There are DVB-C (digital cable) and DVB-S (digital satellite) cards out there with CAM slots, though I should point out that CAMs are not the same as the smart cards you get for digiboxes (e.g. for the TopUpTV service here in the UK). That's not to say you couldn't try - somehow (!) - to put such a smart card slot on a DVB-T card. As it happens, my Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-t has solder points for a big IDE (or rather, IDC)-type connector, but it is only used on the WinTV NOVA-CI card. I put up a couple of photos, and a note, on my site: Good luck if you find anything useful, BTW.

It depends on the encryption used. What country are you in and what channels are you trying to view? You can get plugins for some DVB viewers like ProgDVB and DVBViewer, called a "software CAM" to decrypt the MPEG2 stream on your PC. It basically works like the decrypter with the smart card in your set-top-box, but using your processor to do the decrypting. For some encryptions you need to get the key data off your smart card, others you can find keys for on the internet ;) Try looking at or for more information, I don't know the exact details of how to do this but I think it may be possible.

I'm in sweden. Problem with most other dvb viewer programs, cept for the bundled one is that they all only seem to support dbd-s cards and not dvb-t.

RE: Aver DVB-T & Scrambled channels

There is a topic on the uk hauppauge forum about this issue. This can be solved by using an activated subscription card, a Phoenix card reader, Progdvb/mytheatre and Poor man's cam plugin. Just go to their forum and search for the "Top Up TV?" thread. And here a link to nebula-electronics, describing a similar solution (well actually it is the same) and their upcoming new hardware.
