Now that I've recorded midi how do I exchange the sounds...? I've recorded my SR-16 midi finally thank God and now how do I get the computer to see the midi recording as an audio recording? The file plays back as a piano...I know I need a plug in but how do I find one that I can use to just create drum sounds that I can assign to each midi channel? Thanx for the help...Jimmahbee

Hello Jimmahbee and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information. Make sure that you purchase Nicholas' excellent User Guide and ReaMix docs too. Worth their weight in gold. User Guide:.. ReaMix:....... Purchase:.... Distribution:. Nicholas has also written "Home Recording for Beginners", available at all good book shops: If you can, get hold of a copy of the Computer Music Beginner's Guide Special #32 - it's full of tutorials for beginners, using Reaper. This site will ship it internationally: ========================================== So far you have recorded the MIDI into Reaper. It sounds like you are sending this MIDI to a MIDI hardware or software device which is generating the audio. You are hearing a piano because that is the default program used by such devices. Can you check [Options] >> Preferences >> Audio >> MIDI Devices? And see what is enabled in the MIDI outputs panel. It's probably Microsoft GS Wavetable synth or MPU-401. For a free drum plugin you could check KvR for drum synths or get a copy of Computer Music magazine (that has several plugins on the cover-mount DVD). For starters, CM-505, Dr-Fusion 2 or Drumatic 3. Another thing to try, to get you started: -- click the [io] button for the track -- change the second drop-down list for the MIDI hardware output to "Send to Channel 10". Channel 10 is the MIDI channel ocmmonly used for drums and MIDI devices often treat MIDI notes on channel 10 as drums. -- click Play and see what you hear (if that makes sense) This is just to get you started. More stuff is for later. HTH, for now
... or, I guess, you can send the MIDI out of Reaper back to the SR-16. :) Which would inovlve connecting to your SR-16 MIDI Input, then Enabling the SR-16 in Reaper's MIDI Outputs panel (the one I referred to earlier) and selecting the SR-16 in the track's [io] panel. But, one step at a time.
First of all thank you so much...I really appreciate your help...I see ur in England? I'm an anglophile and one day I will step on Englands shores. That being said I did get some sounds once I sent it to channel 10. I'm using Natives Kore player but it sounds horrible but at least I'm getting something. I can't seem to find out how to get Reaper to recognise the SR-16. I'll play with Kore and I'll look into the other plug-ins you suggested. Thanx again, God bless Jimmahbee
Well I tried 3 drum VSTs' so far and none of them come close to the SR-16 (which actually sounds like real drums). These drums samples would be good in like hip-hop or Rap but in the kind of music I do I need as real as I can get. Anyway...thamx again for your help...Jimmahbee
Did you have a drum kit loaded in Kore? Perhaps you could post your MIDI file here as an attachment so we can have a look at it. That will help us help you.In XP, right-click the file, select Send To ... compressed (Zipped) folder). When you reply, scroll down a bit, open the "Additional Options" section if needed by clicking the double downwards arrows, click on [Manage Attachments], browse to your ZIP file, select and Upload it.
