..just a quick question: does it work ok with Reaper? Low latencies possible? (Do I make a friend of mine happy with it?)

Yes - I have the UX1 and it works great. Same tech as the GX really, but with one additional mic input. Latency is a non-issue on this PC.

I've been using one for over a year and not a single problem.Virtually all the guitars,bass and vocals in my sig Reverbnation page have been done through one :)

The GX is the device I usually buy to send to people who are just getting started. So far so good.

I have the UX2 and the latency isn't bad if you use ASIO4ALL as a wrapper.Without it,it's too much (for me),unless you use Tone Direct of course.

How would you rate the preamp models that come with the Pod software? I bought the gearbox gold and it should be here soon, which has all the model packs and I get a free upgrade to the Pod Platinum. I loved the XT bean that I had before, but I've never tried the preamp models. I mainly do aggressive electronic or dark ambient, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to get the software than it is to collect all the overpriced pedals and rack gear.

mic preamps? hmm, they are bit dust covered, too. But i don't think you will have bad expierence using them. Take a look here: Use them for free as they are designed to work with Nebula 3 free. Thats fine software :) You can expand Nebula 3 (commercial version) with lots of different preamps. Compared to the Nebula solution this one is a rather expensive coloration vst: but it is excellent. Hits your CPU hard!

I've found there are very few if any software amp sims that actually re-create the exact tones of a professionally miced and amped guitar however Podfarm is very easy to use which lends itself to work flow and getting on with recording.Sound quality is excellent and low noise. I've just bought the ,"Triple Pack" add-on and there's some really weird and wonderful new effects like Synth pedals which I've been having fun with and that's something else people may forget.Podfarm is actually fun to play with and can inspire projects. There is a decent support forum and thousands of user patches to download. This little ditty I recently penned the guitars were done with it and for,"Ambient" music the Echoed Wah modulated guitar in the middle was made using the stock amp amps and FX if I recall correctly. Guitar/Bass and vocals on all my songs in my sig link have been done with a Toneport GX.You may like the Octivided guitar sound in this track, If you do decide to get one you can have the patch any time if you like it :)
