as far as I understand the 340 uses a torque tube and renault bellhousing, and the 360 a conventional steel prop and volvo bellhousing. I assume the volvo pattern has been the same for all the older engines from the B20 up to the introduction of the newer T4 and T5 motors? Whats older 16v turbo engine referred to as? b230T or something along those lines I think? Cheers
call it what you like, the important detail afaik is the 340s is alloy and the 360s is steel. from reading autodata, I suspect there wasnt a b230 turbo, there was a 16v 2.3 in the 740/760, but n/a only, a 2.0l 16v turbo and a 2.3 8v turbo.
the torque tube/ prop! I know the 340s were renault bellhousing based and the 360s were volvo redblock, what I want to know is what the biggest 16v turbo engine commonly available is. Ive heard of 2.3 16v turbos, but from reading around forums ive come to the conclusion these are home made!
the T5 engine would be worth it for the noise alone! I assume youd swap to a conventional front gearbox layout for availability of stronger parts? Interesting your comments on handling weight wise, and then talking about a front gearbox. I had seen references to the b304 turbo, but it seems most people who have done it used the b230 8v turbo block and the b234 16v head and custom manifolds/management, so prolly a little expensive. What does the b204T make as standard?
