apply FX to only part of a track

how do you apply (for example) compression to only part of a track?????? any and all replies much appreciated. thanks, chas

You can automated the threshhold. You can split the item and apply to one of the parts item FX. I guess there are even more ways...

Method A) Automation 1) Click the Fx button and add the effect(s) you want to used. 2) Click on the env button 3) For the effect you want to switch on and off, put a tick in the bypass box. 4) An automation lane will appear. Drag the line up to a value of 1 where you don't want the effect. Leave it at zero where you want the effect. Method B) Splitting the track. 1) Click on the track where you want the effect to start. 2) Hit the S key to put a split in the track at that point 3) Click on the track where you want the effect to end. 4) Hit the S key to put a split in the track at that point. 5) Click on the section of track. 6) Hit the F2 key 7) A Media Items Properties window will open 8) Click on the little Fx button and add the effect you want to use. But I think the Method B only works on audio tracks (i.e. not midi) Pete

When drawing the automation, you can easily select the area with the beginning and end markers. It'll apply your adjustment to just that area.
