RE: Volvo p1800 upgrades

I think every mod you describe will spoil the car except the power steering , use Volvo 164 parts

I think by doing these mods once the car was finished it would be worth less than a standard car.

There's is a tread here about elect. powersteering a couple of days ago, I think that would be the way to go. The powersteering from a 164 can be swapped but is pretty involving. Changing to a manual box can easily be done with a M41 or M410. That would be pretty straight foreward, but they don't come cheap and good ones are becoming rare. It's also possible to use a later manual such as a M46 or M47 from the 240 series. You have to use a custom made bellhousing to fit them. Here are some interesting sites with alternatives:

Hi Gordon Please let us know how the EZ unit works out when you get it fitted in Jan. It sounds like a great upgrade. But the proof of the pudding.... Are you DIYing it? Is there anyone on the list who has already had this fitted to their 1800? If so how is it? Thanks DuncanS

Hi Duncan, You're quite right of course, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and up until now I have only what I have heard to go on. However, I have had extensive discussions with the company and I can tell that this is a very well thought out and tested product. So, thats why I'm prepared to bite the bullet and go for it. I'll let you know how it goes. Regards, Gordon
